How Route to Ship works with Shopify
Route to Ship installs from the Shopify App Store and runs alongside Shopify as a production layer — it doesn't replace your storefront, checkout, or the native orders page. Here's exactly how it connects.
Install & authentication
Install in a couple of clicks from the App Store — no developer required. Route to Ship authenticates using Shopify's OAuth token-exchange flow with short-lived, automatically refreshed access tokens. There are no long-lived credentials to manage.
Order sync (webhooks + API)
Paid orders flow in automatically over Shopify webhooks in real time, with an incremental Admin GraphQL sync as a safety net so nothing is missed. Line items, product tags, customer details, and fulfillment status come across with each order.
Tag-based routing
Orders auto-route into the right production pipeline using your Shopify order and product tags — so an engraving order and an embroidery order land in different department queues without manual sorting.
Fulfillment sync back to Shopify
When production finishes and an order is fulfilled, Route to Ship keeps Shopify in step. Route to Ship requests the write_orders scope so it can tag orders and reflect fulfillment — it does not manage your storefront, inventory, or suppliers.
Billing
Plans are billed through Shopify Billing, so charges appear on your normal Shopify invoice — Route to Ship never handles your card details. See pricing.
